A young couple from Portsmouth had clipped one of their Mega Millions ticket to the fridge and had forgotten all about it, in fact it was more than three months after the ticket´s drawing when one day they took the ticket and checked it out.  And what a surprise it was to discover that they had won $250,000.  They will be splitting the prize with the wife’s mother and uncle, who live in Texas.

On March 30th everyone was talking about the record-breaking jackpot and the couple was encouraged by family members to go ahead and give it a try and to give them an extra push they suggested buying tickets together.  Which they meekly did.  After the drawing they heard on the news that there were three jackpot winners but none of them from Rhode Island, so they somehow where not in a rush to check theirs and forgot about the whole incident until the day they decided to check it.

This lottery win comes as a blessing and the couple is very excited since they will be able to afford to have another baby. For the meanwhile they are also  a vacation with all the family to Florida, they would like to use this trip to see family but also so that they will be able to hand deliver the other two checks and celebrate together their good luck.

The winning ticket matched five numbers but not the Mega Ball number, for a standard payout of $250,000. The winners did not add the Megaplier option for an extra dollar on their purchase. If they had, the $250,000 prize would have automatically become a $1,000,000 prize no matter what Megaplier number was drawn.
