Betty O’Brien is 94 years old but she has no plans to stay at home watching TV and knitting. And definitely not now since she has won the prize of a lifetime! Betty loves to play scratchers and she plays regularly, in fact she says that she wins regularly too, but very small prizes. This time she won $10,000.
The 94-year-old won a top prize of $10,000 playing the lottery’s “Scrabble” instant-scratch game. Betty was terribly happy and excited throughout the whole scratching-ticket process, she was even entertained!
“You couldn’t imagine how I felt when I was scratching that ticket,” O’Brien said.
O’Brien was home alone when she scratched her ticket. And after realizing that she had won she sat there contemplating her options. It was no fun to celebrate the win alone.
“I thought, ‘Well, what am I going to do?’” O’Brien contemplated. And immediately she called her daughter Patty to celebrate her big win.
“I said, ‘Are you sitting down?’ And she said, ‘No.’ So I said, ‘Well, sit!’” O’Brien said with a laugh as she claimed her prize flashing a big smile. “And then I told her and she just about fell off of the chair.”
Betty slept tight with her winning ticket and she made sure that he kept it safe, for this reason she hid it and guarded it with her life, it means a lifetime of winnings for her!
“Every once in a while when I got lonesome, I’d take it out and look at it,” she said. “It’s hard to believe. When I saw $10,000, I couldn’t believe it.” Lotteries
With this windfall O’Brien says that she plans to use some of her winnings to pay a couple of bills, for now. The lucky ticket was bought at Dahl’s, 4343 Merle Hay Road in Des Moines. This is her biggest win so far; however she is very positive about winning. In fact, it turns out that she wins a bit every week. She enjoys playing her scratchers and will most probably keep on playing.
