Weather, we talk about it, fret about it and some love it others simply hate it. But how many times has a rainy day deterred you from going out for the morning walk that you vowed to take the night before? How many of you woke up all chirpy and happy only to let a rainy day get the best of you? A Silver Spring man did not let the weather or its consequences to get the best of him and to stop him from discovering that he was the winner of $100,000. That is the spirit! Lottery checker
The winner bought his Bonus Match 5 tickets on Thursday 28th June. Then on Friday, the sudden storm that blew through Maryland took out his power and his Internet access. Though he often doesn’t check his numbers right away, by Sunday he was extremely curious about his tickets and suddenly he had an urge to check them out. Unable to go online to check as he typically would because of the power black-out, the 56-year-old went to his local retailer to see if he had won anything. There he received a receipt saying that he had to go to Lottery Headquarters but he did not know how much he had actually won.
First thing Monday morning, he went to the Lottery’s Lanham office with high hopes of receiving his win, but he was told that the prize was too big to be cashed there. With much curiosity he then proceeded to Lottery headquarters in Baltimore where to his surprise he discovered that he would be receiving a check for the entire $100,000. “I knew the prize was doubled,” he said. “But I had no idea that the taxes were paid.”
The winner who has had his own construction business for 24 years said he will use his winnings to give someone a job this summer and invest.
During the Bonus Match 5 Doubler promotion, which runs through July 8, players have the chance to double their winnings if they receive the word “Doubler” on the top of their Bonus Match 5 ticket. Plus, the estimated taxes are paid on all top prizes.
