SCOTTISH COUPLE CLAIM LARGEST EUROPEAN JACKPOT EVER
July 18, 2011

The winner of the biggest lottery jackpot ever won in Europe finally decided to come forth, claim the prize and make his identity public. In fact, we have to talk about the winning couple, as a husband and wife from Scotland managed to win the $260.5 million jackpot. Colin Weir is 64 years old and his wife, Chris is 55. They have a 30 year long marriage and they are currently unemployed because of health problems. So one might say that another huge lottery jackpot went to someone who actually needs it. The couple lives in Largs, a small town near Glasgow and they are now the 430th richest people in Great Britain. Powerball lottery

“We were tickled pink,” Chris Weir stated. She used to work as a psychiatric nurse. “I even had a glass of white wine, which is something I normally only do at Christmas. It really is unbelievable.”

Colin Weir used to work as a studio manager and TV cameraman, but he looked every bit like a man who is not used to attention from the press. US lottery

“When we first realized we had won, it felt like a dream. But it feels like a good thing; something we should not be afraid of but for us to enjoy with the children,” Colin Weir stated. Lottery results

The Weirs have two children, one boy and one girl. The girl, Carly, is 24 years old and she studies photography, while their son, Jamie, is 22 years old and works at a call center. The couple said that they plan to use the money to travel a lot, see Uluru, the Great Wall of China and visit some of the most famous art galleries in the world. Colin is a big fan of soccer, and he particularly fancies FC Barcelona, which he plans on seeing at their Camp Nou stadium.

The money couldn’t have come at a better time, as both problems have been suffering from illness and have been unable to work. Chris Weir suffers from general poor health while Colin had a terrible leg injury and also has rheumatoid arthritis.

They said they would have wanted to keep their identities a secret, but they didn’t think even for a second that they could actually keep it from their neighbors or the press. Also, they concluded that the money will not be able to change them.

“We are not flashy people,” they said. “With wealth comes great responsibility.”
