SAN DIEGO IS THE LUCKIEST TOWN
October 14, 2011

According to the Men´s Health magazine,  San Diego which is also know for it´s amazing weather has been crowned with the title of the most lucky town around. State lottery

But how do you actually rate something so intangible as luck?  According to David Zinczenko, the editor in chief of the magazine, the word luck is the modern word for magic.   “People need to believe in luck because it allows them to give a name to the randomness of life, and when you name something, you have more power over it”, he said. Now that we have a definition of luck, what exactly was considered in order to come up with this list?  As incredible as it may seem lottery winning was not the only criteria taken into account.  Data was collected about the cities with the most lottery and sweepstakes winners, the most  the most hole-in-ones on the golf course, the fewest lighting strikes, the least deaths from falling objects, and the lowest debt due to playing the lottery and race betting. There are a few criteria which pushed San Diego up to the top in this list, including  the city´s multiple jackpot winners, the low number in lightning-related injuries and deaths from falling objects as well as the low number of lightning striking count.

The famous gambling cities Las Vegas and Reno, Nevada also ended up in the top 10 of this list.  “It is in the top 10,” Zinczenko said about Las Vegas. “And you have to remember that there would be no Vegas if all of the gamblers were lucky all of the time.”

On the top bottom of the list however is Charleston, West Virginia which is a town with the highest rate of deaths from falling objects and no lottery or sweepstakes winners at all. In this category is also Tampa in Florida, Jackson, Mississippi and Memphis.

The Complete List

According to Men’s Health magazine, the complete list of 100 cities can be found below, with the luckiest cities shown at the top.  The magazine defines good luck as follows: the most winners of Powerball, Mega Millions, and Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes; most hole-in-ones (PGA); fewest lightning strikes (including the fatal kind) and deaths from falling objects (Vaisala Inc., National Climatic Data Center, CDC); and least money lost on lottery tickets and race betting (Bureau of Labor Statistics).
