The love for scratcher tickets of a South Carolina woman, Caroline Johnson gave her then boyfriend the best idea to propose to her. Their lives together have been so much shaped by this game that they are now owners of a shop which also sells Lottery.
Caroline received her proposal in the form of a gag scratch-off ticket, it did not only took her by surprise but it was the best prize she could have ever received. She remembers that moment clearly and still has the quarter and the tickets she scratched that afternoon.
When Jimmy left on business the following day, Caroline went to Savannah to stay with Jimmy’s mom. The couple’s proposal story was a big hit with their family and friends.
Two years later in May of 2004 the couple wed in the same place they met for the first time on the banks of Lake Hartwell.
Jimmy was introduced to Caroline when he was an auctioneer and she had just earned her real estate license. Caroline was showing a client, a friend of her father’s, a lot Jimmy was auctioning. They came to terms on the lot and, as fate would have it, their reception took place in that very spot. Jimmy bought the lake lot next door where the wedding was held.
“It was like a big party with a little ceremony,” Jimmy said.
Guests were treated to live music, caviar, shrimp, bottled cokes, and, of course, lottery tickets. It was quite a party.
The theme of the wedding had to be related to the way how Jimmy had proposed, in fact all the tables held place cards with the story. After their first dance, $1 South Carolina Education Lottery tickets were handed to the guests. It was all about spreading the good cheer and luck.
“Guests were screaming ‘I won’ and it was so funny,” said Caroline, who scratched the leftover tickets on their honeymoon in Charleston. Mega lottery
Now, things have changed a bit Caroline sells more lottery tickets than she scratches. The biggest lottery winner so far at B&B won $500 and it wasn´t her. She already feels completely blessed and happy with what she´s got.
“The biggest Lottery I ever won was Jimmy,” Caroline said.
