We have been running stories related to Lottery for some time now, these stories are usually full of hope and surprise, the type of surprise that sends you chills down the spine and make you shout will joy. But although there are similar stories, they are not all the same. And this one is simply full of fun.
Jimmy and Caroline Johnson have been running a store for seven years now, the B&B Pawn Shop on S. Main St. in Anderson. And they sell scratch-off tickets every day. Lottery tickets however remind Jimmy and Caroline of very good times, it reminds them of their wedding day.
Between the two owners, Caroline is the real lottery fan. Jimmy jokes he became a lottery retailer several years back to save him from dealing with traffic.
Jimmy and Caroline began dating a while back, before South Carolina even had a Lottery. It was a ritual of theirs that whenever Jimmy would go away on business he would come home with scratch-offs for Caroline. She liked the gifts so much, they gave him an idea.
In March of 2002, Jimmy proposed to Caroline in a way you would never expect and the whole creative idea came from Caroline´s love for scratchers ! Lotteries
Jimmy was leaving the next day on a business trip, so he decided to surprise Caroline with tickets before he left.
“He handed me this stack of lottery tickets, and we went outside to sit in the swing where I wouldn’t make a mess scratching them,” Caroline recalls.
Jimmy had hidden a gag lottery ticket he ordered online between all the South Carolina Education Lottery tickets, he waited patiently for Caroline to have fun with all her tickets.
Using a quarter, Caroline scratched through the tickets having fun with them and winning a bit here and there, nothing that was worth visiting the Lottery Headquarters. She was shocked when she finally revealed a ticket with three smiley faces and a prize reading, “Will you marry me?”
“I thought it was a joke,” she said.
Jimmy kept asking, “What does it say?”
Caroline answered, “Will you marry me?”
“Yes,” Jimmy said.
Then Caroline looked up and there was Jimmy holding a diamond ring.
“Now he tells everyone I asked him to marry me,” she laughs.
