Tommy Matheny won the July 13th Mega Millions drawing, he matched the first five numbers and just to make sure that he was really holding a winning ticket he called the Hoosier Lottery to verify his winning and to know how much the ticket was worth.
The Muncie man had assumed that his prize would be a respectable amount of $250,000 but he was wrong. And what a great thing to be wrong, for he found out that he had won a million dollars instead
“No sir. If you have the Megaplier, you’ve won a million dollars,” was the news he got from Hoosier Lottery Customer Service Representative, Kay Billiard. “It sounded like he dropped the phone.”
“I couldn’t believe it. I was just happy,” said Matheny. “But I didn’t want to get too excited until I had the money in hand. I didn’t want to be disappointed.” State lottery
Matheny surely wasn’t disappointed, for he got what he was told, one million dollars were handed to him at the Hoosier Lottery Headquarters. He was not the only one who matched the first five numbers for the drawing; there were seven players nationwide that matched the first five numbers, but not the Megaball. Thankfully Matheny added the Megaplier option which cost him just an extra dollar and that is how he multiplied his standard winning prize of $250,000 prize into a million dollar windfall.
The General Motors retiree described the whole experience as being “pretty cool”. With this amazing windfall he is looking forward to buy a new car and to help his two children who are both adults, one of them will be making him the grandfather of twins next month.
“I can put some in the bank and really help my children now,” said Matheny.
Matheny loves to play the lottery and he is very loyal to purchasing his tickets always at the same place which is at 1900 S. Tillotson in Muncie. After this win he assured that he will continue to play Mega Millions and buy his tickets at that lucky location.
