LOTTERY PRIZES GO UNCLAIMED
July 29, 2011

It looks like Americans don’t need money anymore. There are many winning lottery tickets which will expire in the near future or have expired already. For example, a person in Massachusetts just missed out on a Mega Millions $250,000 prize, as his ticket with the numbers 2, 7, 10, 16 and 29 expired a couple of days ago. On August 3, just six days from now, a Florida ticket holder will lose a $900,000 jackpot. It is most unfortunate that so many consistent prizes are going without a winner. Lottery results

A couple of tickets from Arizona which are eligible for $10,000 prizes will expire next month, one on August 8 and the other on August 22. Florida is set to miss out on another winner if the owner of a special ticket won’t go to claim his $55,404 prize. Things are even worse in California when one lottery winner will miss out on a $300,000 on August 23 while another one has until September 22 to claim his $227,000 prize. Another ticket, with a considerably larger prize, will expire in December. That ticket holder is from Iowa and he or she will miss out on an astonishing $16.5 million. National lottery

This means that during the next 5 months, more than $17.5 million will be lost in just four states. Remember that if a winner doesn’t go claim his prize in the allotted time period, he won’t even receive a penny from his prize. One of the largest prizes ever lost belonged to Clarence Jackson from Connecticut. In 1996, the man arrived 3 days late and missed out on a $5 million jackpot. Since that event, this whole missing out on a winning ticket was christened “doing a Clarence Jackson”. An unnamed lottery player lost even more in 2002. That ticket was purchased in Indiana and it won a $51.7 million prize at the multi state Powerball game.

Lesser prizes, but still considerable, expire every month. About 2 percent of all lottery winnings remain unclaimed every year. It may not look like much, but that means more than $17 million in California alone. Lottery numbers

So we just can’t help but wonder. Americans really don’t need money anymore? It’s just irresponsible to purchase lottery tickets and just misplace them like that. However, that’s about it on the matter for now. Join us again soon if you want to learn more news about any state lottery and lotteries in general.
