The legal battle between two men from Edmonton, Alberta over a $33 million jackpot could be settled next week. Matthew Hayduk is supported by the Western Canada Lottery Corporation, but there have been 6 other claims of purchased winning lottery tickets.
After court hearings, only Hayduk and Ted Baltoussen were left with strong claims to the award. The others had claimed that they were victims of a lottery group scam, threw away their lottery tickets or friends switched their winning tickets. However, Matthew Hayduk is the only one who was able to present a signed copy of the winning ticket. Lottery winning numbers
Baltoussen, the only one left to challenge Hayduk’s prize stated that a clerk of the convenience store where he purchased the ticket has switched it when he asked him to verify it.
“I still believe that ticket could have been a winner, for sure,” Ted Baltoussen stated. “I definitely want to get to the bottom of it, if I was the winner or not.”
An investigator from the Alberta Liquor and Gaming Commission has reviewed surveillance camera videos and reported that he saw nothing that could suggest anything similar to what Baltoussen said. However, Baltoussen challenged the report, saying that the video was far from conclusive.
Court of Queen’s Bench Justice Denny Thomas told Baltoussen that if he wants his claim to be taken seriously, he must prove he purchased the winning lottery ticket. A spokesperson for the lottery said that the court is the best place to solve this dispute, as the corporation does not have any legal power to uncover all the details. Mega lottery
