In 2010, the Iowa State Lottery gave the general fund $57.2 million. The money is being used for health and family services, natural resources, public safety and education.

The lottery has also been helping the Vision Iowa program since 2000. It was created to build and repair schools, promote tourism destinations and other purposes.

As of 2008, a part of the lottery proceeds are being sent to the Iowa Veterans Trust Fund. Approximately $3 million from instant win scratch games go to the Trust Fund annually. The Trust Fund was created so qualified veterans would benefit from assistance and get help with paying for college tuition, medical help, counseling problems and job training.
