Douglas Goffaux from Centre, Alabama, managed to win a $3 million prize with the Georgia State Lottery. The man purchased his ticket at a food mart in Cave Spring, Georgia, and the store manager said he watched the man’s astonishment as he won $3 million. The store in question is the Marathon Food Mart located at 150 Gadsden Road S.W. in Cave Spring. The ticket was for the $3,000,000 Taxes Paid instant scratch game.  The man claimed his prize a few days ago, at Georgia Lottery’s Dalton District Office. Lottery checker

“The winner scratched it right in front of me,” the store manager, ironically named Ashish Merchant, stated. “For almost 20 minutes he was shaking. He was sitting in front of the counter.”

Merchant said he asked the winner what he would do with one million dollars. Lottery winning numbers

“He was about to fall from his chair,” Merchant described Goffaux’s reaction upon becoming aware of his massive luck. A sign was placed at the entrance of the store, claiming that the Marathon Food Mart is a fortunate one.

The state lottery of Georgia was founded in late 1992 when the Lottery for Education Act was adopted. The lottery’s main purpose for existence is helping education throughout the state. It has even declared a “mission statement”, saying that it is the lottery’s goal “To maximize revenues for specific education programs by providing entertaining lottery products and quality customer service to our retailers and players, while maintaining the integrity of the Georgia Lottery Corporation and its games.”

The lottery started to sell tickets on June 29, 1993, and managed to sell over 52 million lottery tickets in its first week. The lottery became one of the most successful in the United States and managed to meet its $463 million expectations in just 5 months. For its first fiscal year, the Georgia Lottery sold more than $1.1 billion worth of tickets. In fact, the Georgia Lottery remains to this day the most successful new lottery in the United States, surpassing the Florida State Lottery with almost $40 million in capita sales.
