Marcia Bartholomew of Parsons, Kansas was at the Kauffman Stadium watching old rivals the Saint Louis Cardinals play with the Royals. These two teams have a perennial rivalry but it was something more than watching the game that gave Marcia Bartholomew an epic win. While everyone around her at the stadium where concentrated on the ballgame, Marcia was concentrated scratching off a “Red Hot and Wild 7s” ticket which revealed a top prize of $77,000.
She purchased the ticket on June 23 at one of the Lottery’s instant ticket vending machines located at Kauffman.
According to the executive director of the Missouri Lottery, the point of having vending machines at the stadium is the one of entertaining baseball fans, it is like being able to cram as much fun possible for people would have the chance to watch their favorite games and also enjoy their favorite Scratchers game. “It made my day to learn that someone won a top prize there”, said the executive.
As for Bartholomew, 50 she was simply blown away, she was there holding her winning ticket while everyone had their eyes on the game. She immediately slipped her ticket into her purse and held on to it, keeping it with her at all times. They remained mum about the win during the whole game and told absolutely no-one about it.
Back home with the ticket signed and safely tucked away, she made plans to drive to the Lottery’s Springfield regional office the following week to claim her prize. She said she already had a few ideas in mind for using the unexpected cash prize.
“I need some work done on my truck, and my boyfriend has a house that needs some work,” she explained. “Then I’ll probably put some in the bank to get some interest off it.”
