A GROUP OF TEACHERS WINS THE LOTTERY
November 21, 2011

There is a ritual among a group of 14 teachers in Ohio, and they have been doing this together for 15 years. They have been pulling their money together to buy the lottery. It is quite simple, indeed what each member needs to do is to pitch in 10 bucks each month and the rest is taken care of since the group is very well structured and organized and has its own leader. National lottery

According to the group, this is not the first time that they win, however it was for smaller amounts, less than $100.

When they heard someone in Ohio won a sizable amount, the group’s leader, Tom Shannon, began teasing the other teachers.

“In my classroom, he said someone won the $250,000 and wouldn’t it be funny if it was us because he didn’t check our numbers yet,” said fifth grade teacher Carmen Rhodes-Grover

That night, they got the good news. They had won a quarter of a million dollars.

“It was really exciting,” said Rhodes-Grover. Lottery numbers

Their ticket matched 5 of the 6 numbers, they were just one number away from taking home 78 million. And that would have been definitely nice, taking into consideration that the prize needs to be divided into 14. After taxes, each teacher will receive $12,321. This amount will not make them rich enough to retire but it does represent a very nice extra for the season. It is enough to pay off some bills or for them to plan a nice vacation with their families. One of the teachers said that the cash will be used to cover the expenses of her three daughters´ weddings.

Just one number made the difference between being able to retire the 14 teachers at once or receiving a huge bonus from the lottery just in time for the celebrations of the end of year. One number, huge difference. However all of the teachers have been reported to have expressed their joy and gratitude towards this win.

“I’ll spend some on my class because I spoil them rotten,” said Rhodes-Grover.

The retailer who sold the ticket will be awarded $1,000.

“It’s a nice Christmas present,” said Maged Gadelsayed, owner of the Corner Beverage & Humidor store in Euclid.

With all the ups and downs of the economy and all the responsibilities that each of the teachers have at home, this win is actually a blessing since for most of them it as been a very stressful year. This windfall is for sure enough to provide some kind relief and ease out some of that stress that they have been carrying all year long. What greater way to enjoy the holidays coming in just a month than with worries taken off from your shoulders.
