$24M MEGA MILLIONS JACKPOT GOES UNCLAIMED
August 18, 2011

The $24 million jackpot for the Mega Millions draw held on August 16 went without a winner. After somebody winning a $99 million jackpot recently and another person coming forth to claim an older $107 million jackpot, there is no big winner to talk about. Powerball lottery

However, even if nobody managed to win the big prize, there were 6 tickets which managed to come extremely close and got the first 5 numbers right. They are now eligible for $250,000 prizes. 2 of the tickets were from Washington, 1 from Connecticut, 1 from Maryland and 2 from California. Also, 25 other people managed to get the first 4 numbers and the Mega Ball right and should receive $10,000 prizes. Mega lottery

The lucky numbers for Tuesday’s draw were 4, 38, 41, 42, 43 and the Mega Ball 44. The Megaplier number was 4. Experts claim this was one of the most difficult combinations to get right, and only a quick pick ticket would have had any chance of guessing it. Unfortunately, we have no other information on the matter for now. Lotteries

In other news, a gambler from Europe went from ecstasy to agony in a very brief period of time.

Behar Merlaku was playing a slot machine in an Austrian casino and actually won a $62 million payout. That happened on March 26, but the Bregenz casino refused to give him his rightful prize, and the man decided to go to court.

Casino officials did not contradict the fact that the slot machine showed a payout of $62 million, but they claimed a malfunctioning computer chip was responsible for a “faulty display”. The two sides are going to court, but Behar Merlaku has been banned from entering the casino again.

Legal experts specialized in gambling say it is not unheard of for a machine to show a $62 million payout, but if the machine’s chart showed a maximum sum lower than that, then the chart should be considered supreme. A US lawyer said the court should have no problem with this case and simply award the man the maximum sum shown on the slot machine’s chart.

It sure looks unfair as anyone who loses while playing that machine can claim it’s because of a malfunction but casinos are not known for doing the right thing.
