WICHITA NASCAR FAN WINS $25,000 TOP PRIZE
May 31, 2012
On a whim Saturday, Cheree LaForest decided to purchase five of the $5 Kansas Lottery Officially Licensed NASCAR instant scratch tickets. Being a NASCAR fan, she was hoping to win a VIP racing weekend prize package for two at Kansas Speedway in October during a second-chance drawing. However, instead of sending in her non-winning NASCAR tickets for the drawing, the Wichita resident was shocked to discover she had revealed a $25,000 top prize on the last ticket she purchased!
"I buy tickets about once a week," said LaForest. "I've been playing the 25th Anniversary Cruise game. I would love to win a cruise, but the NASCAR ticket caught my eye, so I gave it a try."
After taking her tickets home to scratch, the Wichita resident couldn't believe her good fortune.
"I've never won anything bigger than $100," said LaForest. "Now we can pay off medical bills. I still want to win one of the cruise prize packages though. My husband, Jeremy, and I have been married a year, but didn't go on a honeymoon. A cruise would be awesome, or I wouldn't mind winning one of the 2012 MLB prize packages."
After claiming her $25,000 top prize Tuesday morning at Lottery headquarters in Topeka, LaForest entered non-winning tickets for the 25th Anniversary Cruise second-chance drawing and the 2012 MLB All-Star Game second-chance drawing. We hope her luck continues by winning a second-chance drawing prize package and she gets to go on a belated honeymoon.
LaForest, who has an eight month old son, purchased her winning ticket at Dillons 65, located at 3211 S. Seneca St. in Wichita.
