SOUTH BEND MOTHER OUT OF MILK AND IN THE MONEY
June 5, 2012
A St. Joseph County woman is in the money because she was out of milk last Thursday. Jeanine Rozum of South Bend was buying milk at Martin’s Supermarket at 1302 South Elwood Street in South Bend when she purchased (and scratched) a Hoosier Lottery Fat Wallet Scratch-off ticket worth $125,000.
The stay-at-home mom immediately dropped off the milk at home and grabbed her husband, who was at work at a local factory, and made the two and a half hour drive to Hoosier Lottery Headquarters in Indianapolis to claim her winnings.
“I had such a knot in my stomach,” said Rozum. “I thought I was going to pass out.”
As she claimed her prize, just hours after scratching her ticket, Rozum was still in shock and hadn’t had time to fully process her situation. The New Yorker turned Hoosier said she needed to “regroup” before she could talk with any certainty about how she might use her winnings. There is only one thing she knows for sure she wants to do. She plans to take her 11-year-old son to her native New York City to see the Statue of Liberty.
