SCRATCH-OFF WINNER HEADING TO THE BAHAMAS
May 23, 2012
One of Kingman, Indiana’s 511 residents is the latest lucky Hoosier to win big money playing the Hoosier Lottery. Tammy Rutledge has never been to the Bahamas, but she’s going now that she has won $50,000 from the Hoosier Lottery.
Every day on her way to work, Rutledge stops and buys one Hoosier Lottery Scratch-off. Every day she scratches her ticket in the parking lot outside the nursing home where she works as a Qualified Medication Assistant. She couldn’t believe her eyes Sunday morning as she scratched off a Fat Wallet ticket worth $50,000!
“I signed the back and went in and asked a co-worker, ‘Am I dreaming?’” said Rutledge. “She looked at the ticket and started screaming and my butt hit the floor!”
Rutledge’s co-workers urged her to take off work and claim her prize immediately. Rutledge resisted. She did the conscientious thing and waited until yesterday, her day off, to claim her prize at Hoosier Lottery Headquarters in Indianapolis.
“I’m basically a paycheck to paycheck person,” said Rutledge. “The most I’ve ever won is $100. I never thought in a million years this would happen.”
The mother of two grown sons and two grown step-daughters has a total of 19 grandchildren. She says she’s happy to help out her children and pay off some bills. What she is most looking forward to is a long-awaited and never-before-possible dream vacation in the Bahamas. The excitement was visible on her face and audible in her voice as she announced, “I’m going to the Bahamas!”
Rutledge purchased her lucky Scratch-off at Falcon Mart at 999 E. State Road 234 in Cayuga, Ind., in Vermillion County near the Illinois border.
