ROCKINGHAM COUNTY MAN TO START COLLEGE FUND WITH $100,000 PRIZE
June 11, 2012
Rocky Bibee and his mother Linda Fulp, residents of Eden in Rockingham County, plan to use the $100,000 they won playing Carolina Black to purchase a car, take their family on a Disney World vacation and start a college fund for Bibee’s children.
They recently began to pool their money to purchase lottery tickets together, stating it gave them better odds for less investment. After a friend recommended the Carolina Black game, Fulp decided to try her luck on Sunday at the Goraya Best Stop on East Aiken Road in Eden.
“I scratched it right there in the car,” Fulp said. “I called my son right then and there and told him I was coming over.”
Bibee and Fulp collected a check for $68,001 after state and federal taxes were withheld. They are the first to claim the top prize in the Carolina Black game, which launched last Tuesday.
“I can’t believe it,” Bibee said as he collected the winnings he and his mother will share. “It is just surreal. Even sitting here it hasn’t sunk in yet.”
