RETIRED TEACHER EXPERIENCES ANOTHER HOOSIER LOTTERY BENEFIT
July 30, 2012
An Indianapolis native living in Florida is no stranger to the benefits provided annually by the Hoosier Lottery to the citizens of Indiana. And, now, she is familiar with being a big Hoosier Lottery winner, too.
Susan Yeakle of Boca Raton, Florida, matched the first five numbers but not the Megaball number in the July 13 Mega Millions drawing and won $250,000 after purchasing her lucky ticket at Payless Liquors at 2511 Albany Avenue in Beech Grove.
A former Indiana middle school teacher, Yeakle already receives retirement benefits as a result of the annual net income produced by the Hoosier Lottery and said she is “thankful for the opportunity” to supplement her teacher’s retirement with her own winnings.
In addition to the support it provides to the pension fund for retired teachers, the Hoosier Lottery’s net income also backs pension and disability funds for retired police officers and firefighters, and the Build Indiana Fund, which significantly reduces the motor vehicle excise tax for all Hoosier drivers.
Yeakle compared the excitement of winning to Christmas Eve. She says she plans to use her winnings to make some upgrades to her condo in Florida, but hopes to bank most of it for a rainy day.
