MILWAUKEE MAN CLAIMS $2 MILLION POWERBALL PRIZE
May 23, 2012
A Milwaukee man claimed a $2 million Powerball prize from the Wisconsin Lottery's May 16 Powerball drawing, becoming the second state player in the last month to do so.
Joe White purchased two sets of numbers for the May 16th drawing and added Power Play, Powerball's prize multiplier feature.
The first set of numbers on White's ticket matched all five regular winning numbers to win $1,000,000. But because White had also purchased Power Play, his prize was automatically doubled, making it a $2,000,000 prize.
After taxes White received $1,345,000 in a single lump sum payment.
The May 16th winning Powerball numbers were 03, 07, 21, 28 and 43, with a Powerball of 02.
White purchased his winning ticket at Vagyon Enterprises, 3870 S. Howell Avenue in Milwaukee. For selling White's ticket the company earns a $40,000 commission. Lottery retailers who sell winning tickets with prizes of $600 or more earn the equivalent of 2% of the prize, up to a maximum of $100,000.
White won his prize on the same night Jeannette Sroka of Malone won $1 million. She claimed her Powerball prize last week.
