LOUISVILLE COUPLE ADD TO RETIREMENT FUND BY WINNING $35 GRAND ON SCRATCH-OFF
August 27, 2012
Louisville resident Jerry Gritton, 63, and his wife Linda had been contemplating for some time on when they were going to retire. It was decided that last Thursday Jerry was to give his notice to Papercone Corporation in Louisville.
The next morning Jerry went to Sav A Step #50 on Smyrna Road to pick up a newspaper and bought two $5 Lucky Tables scratch-off tickets
He scratched the first one off, not winning anything. He then began to scratch off the second one. “I noticed it was ticket number 000, when I was thinking, ‘Oh, this is going to be a loser since it was the first one on the roll,’” he said.
“I scratched off a star symbol and prize amount of $2,500, which I never expected to see since I had to double the amount. I continued to scratch off seven stars all together,” Jerry told lottery officials.
When Jerry got home his wife Linda was getting ready to go to her job at Walgreens. She too was planning to retire and was going to give her two weeks’ notice.
Jerry told her what had happened while at the store and that he had won $35,000. She said to him, “Why do I need to give two weeks’ notice?” She got dressed back in regular clothes and went to work to tell them she wouldn’t be coming back, that her husband won the lottery. “They were very happy for me,” Linda said.
“Life is good,” they both said about their win. The couple plan to use the winnings towards home remodeling, pay off Jerry’s truck and pay off bills.
