JEFFERSON CITY MAN SCORES $1,000 LOTTERY PAYDAY

A self-employed Jefferson City construction worker went with his “gut” and landed a $1,000 Missouri Lottery prize. John Elston, 48, stopped for gas at Convenient Food Mart, 701 Eastland Dr. in Jefferson City, on July 24. He was hoping for the top prize on the “$750,000 Taxes Paid” Scratchers game, but he was quite pleased with the ticket he bought.
“I only had $20 on me,” began Elston. “I went to the gas station and said, ‘I need $10 in gas on pump seven, and give me one of those number 13s (Lottery ticket).’ I had forgotten that it was a $10 ticket. I almost gave it back.”
Realizing that it would take all of his cash, Elston waivered when the clerk asked him if he still wanted the ticket.
“I said, ‘Uh, I thought it was $5, but yeah, give it to me.’ Got home, scratched it off and that was it,” he recalled.
Excited about winning $1,000, Elston took the ticket to Lottery headquarters in Jefferson City to claim his prize the next day. He happily posed for pictures for Molottery.com.
“I’m on there every day,” claimed the regular Lottery player about the website.
Plans for the windfall include paying off his truck and taking his fiancé to dinner. He might also spend a few dollars on his favorite Draw Game, Show Me Cash. He advised other players to follow his lead.
“Go with your gut feeling,” he said.
