JACKSONVILLE MAN WINS $500 A WEEK FOR LIFE SCRATCH OFF PRIZE
July 10, 2012
The Florida Lottery announces that Michael W. Smith, 65, of Jacksonville, claimed a prize of $500 a week for life in the LUCKY $500 A WEEK FOR LIFE Scratch-Off game at Florida Lottery headquarters.
According to Smith, he initially purchased a $3 MONOPOLY Scratch-Off ticket and won $5, so he planned to purchase another MONOPOLY ticket. The clerk told him the ticket he bought was the last $3 MONOPOLY ticket in the dispenser, so Smith bought two LUCKY $500 A WEEK FOR LIFE tickets instead. "The second ticket I scratched ended up being a top prize winner," Smith explained, adding, "I was lucky the store was out of the MONOPOLY tickets or I would not have tried this game and won this prize!"
Smith chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $436,801.56. He purchased his winning ticket at Commonwealth BP, located at 6573 Commonwealth Avenue in Jacksonville.
