FRIDAY THE 13TH TURNS LUCKY FOR $13 MILLION SUPERLOTTO PLUS JACKPOT WINNER
July 18, 2012
Friday the 13th usually isn’t a day people associate with anything other than bad luck. But that’s no longer the case for Omar Estrella. Omar stepped into the Lottery’s San Francisco District Office on Friday afternoon to claim a $13 million SuperLotto Plus jackpot prize.
He purchased his jackpot-winning ticket for the June 23 draw at Kwik Pik Market, which is located at 101 Golf Course Drive Building E in Rohnert Park (Sonoma County). His ticket matched all six winning numbers – 2, 3, 10, 22, 25 and Mega 7.
Omar told us that he plays the Lottery regularly. Since he was in the area he decided to stop in at the Kwik Pik and put $4 on his special numbers for the June 23rd draw. The next morning he got a call from a family member who told him that there had been a big winner. At that point he decided to go to www.calottery.com to check his numbers and he couldn’t believe what he saw! “It was just an amazing, awesome feeling,” he said, after noting that his previous top win playing the Lottery was “no more than $100.”
After the initial shock wore off, he says he made a few calls, but remained anxious about his very valuable slip of paper. He took some time to gather information and advice about the claims process, and took a pre-planned vacation, before coming in with his family to claim their winnings.
As far as what he plans to do with those winnings? “It’s too early to say,” Omar said. He intends to hire a financial advisor and get things in place to help him make smart decisions about the money.
The cash option amount for this ticket is $9.6 million and Omar has 60 days to decide if he will choose the lump sum amount or spread his winnings out over 26 years.
Omar wasn’t the only winners on June 23. Kwik Pik Market will receive a bonus of one half percent or $65,000 for selling the winning ticket.
