COLUMBUS HOOSIER LOTTO WINNERS COME FORWARD
August 14, 2012
The wait is over! We now know the identity of the winners of the $14 million Hoosier Lotto jackpot recently won in Columbus, Ind. A group of six friends in Columbus calling themselves “Thursday Lunch Six” walked into Hoosier Lottery Headquarters today and presented Lottery officials with a little slip of paper worth very big bucks.
That little slip of paper was a jackpot-winning Hoosier Lotto ticket worth millions. The group’s quick pick ticket matched all six numbers in the August 4 drawing. The winning numbers were: 15-19-31-33-42-47.
The winners had the option to take their prize as a 30-year annuity or to take the cash option in a lump sum immediately. The group elected to take the cash option and shared a one-time lump-sum payout of approximately $5.1 million today. The winners each received approximately $850,000 before taxes in a check presentation at Hoosier Lottery Headquarters August 14.
The six winners are Tom Brown, his wife Shirley Brown, Glenn Petri, Jane Sims, Martha Conway Risk and Victoria Glick. They all hail from Columbus. Tom Brown purchased the group’s lucky ticket at Jay C Food Store at 4290 Jonathon Moore Pike in Columbus. The store will receive $100,000 bonus.
“It’s hard for it to sink in that you’ve won the money and can do things that you couldn’t do before,” said Glenn Petri.
The Thursday Lunch Six have played Powerball together as a group for about a year, but only started putting their money on Hoosier Lotto two weeks ago. Their winning Hoosier Lotto ticket was in only the second set of Hoosier Lotto tickets they purchased.
“Obviously that was a good move,” said Tom Brown.
Tom and his wife Shirley are retired, but the rest of the group has no plans to retire just yet. They do plan to continue meeting for lunch on Thursdays and say they might start taking their chances with Powerball now that the jackpot is an estimated $320 million.
