BIG PRIZES CLAIMED FOR INSTANT GAMES, KENO, POWERBALL®, AND DAILY NUMBERS
October 16, 2009
Rhode Island Lottery players keep on winning with six big prizes recently hit.

Gilberte Desrosiers, Woonsocket, (photo attached) claimed a $20,000 prize from the Wild 7’s Slingo Instant Game. She bought the ticket from Tesoro Market at 1047 Social St., Woonsocket, and plans to give most of the money to her daughter.

Also this week, there was an $18,000 Keno Plus prize claimed by a man from Colchester, CT. He played a $2 wager for the seven-spot game, which pays out $9,000. However, he selected the Keno Plus feature and the 2 multiplier came up, so his prize became $18,000. He purchased the winning ticket while out with his coworkers at the Oak Hill Tavern on Tower Hill Road in North Kingstown. To keep his ticket safe and make sure he didn’t lose it, he stapled it to his shirt pocket.

There were also three $10,000 winning PowerBall® tickets claimed. Two of the tickets were from the October 3rd drawing and one was from the September 26th drawing. A South Kingstown man picked up his ticket from Stop & Shop at 1300 Ten Rod Rd., North Kingstown, and has no plans for the winnings yet. Marie Calenda, Danielson, CT, bought her ticket from Foster Xtra Mart on Danielson Pike, and said her husband immediately called everyone they knew when he found out they won. James Livingston, Lincoln, RI, (photo attached) purchased his ticket from Gulf Express on Pine Swamp Road in Cumberland.

All of the $10,000 tickets matched the first four numbers, but not the PowerBall® number, for the standard payout of $10,000. No one purchased the PowerPlay® feature for an additional dollar on their wager. If they had, their $10,000 prizes would have been multiplied by whatever the PowerPlay® number was for those draws.

Unlike these three players, one winner did pay the extra dollar for PowerPlay® and doubled the $10,000 prize in Wednesday night’s drawing to win $20,000. Stop Quick Mart at 814 Diamond Hill Rd., Woonsocket, sold the winning ticket, which has yet to be claimed.

A North Providence man cashed in five separate $1 four-digit Daily Numbers wagers, winning $5,000 on each for a total of $25,000. The lucky number was 6 1 8 9, which he played because it was the date his mother passed away. Cumberland Farms at 353 Waterman Ave., Smithfield, sold all five winning tickets.
