KIMBERLING CITY MAN LANDS $200,000 POWERBALL PRIZE

A change in routine led a retired Kimberling City resident to a $200,000 Powerball prize. Charles Lane, 60, who normally uses his own number combination when playing Powerball, decided instead to use Quick Pick for the Oct. 7 drawing. Luck was on his side when the randomly generated set of numbers matched all five white-ball numbers drawn that evening.
“I’ve been playing for about 11 years,” Lane explained. “I did do my own (numbers), but I thought I’d just get two Quick Pick this time, and that’s what happened.”
It was the day after the drawing that he realized he held a winning ticket.
“I put it in one of those machines the next morning,” he said, referring to the Check-A-Ticket (CAT) scanner found at Missouri Lottery retailers.
Lane tried to remain low-key at first.
“I didn’t want to get excited in front of everyone,” he shared. “I waited until I got back out to my vehicle.”
After calling his sons to share the good news, Lane decided his plans for the prize money will consist of “paying off bills and taking care of the rest of it.”
