$200,000 POWERBALL TICKET SOLD IN LITTLETON
August 12, 2009
DENVER – Although there was no jackpot winner in Wednesday’s Powerball drawing, one lucky player in Littleton scored $200,000 by matching five numbers in the jackpot game. The large prize-winning ticket was sold at Diamond Shamrock, 2020 E. County Line Road, Littleton. The store will receive a $2,000 bonus for selling the ticket. The ticketholder was one of six nationwide that earned a $200,000 prize in Wednesday’s drawing.
“We’re thrilled that someone from Colorado was able to claim such a large prize,” said Colorado Lottery Director Jack Boehm. “It’s important for our players to realize that even though Powerball is played in many states, sales from Powerball tickets sold in Colorado help support important projects right here at home.”
The player, who claimed the prize Thursday morning, wishes to remain anonymous. If the individual had opted for Power Play for an extra $1, the ticket would have been worth $1 million. That’s because players who match five numbers in the drawing automatically win $1 million if they choose the Power Play option, regardless of what Power Play number is selected. The winning numbers in Wednesday’s drawing were: 10, 25, 32, 34, 47 and Powerball number 5.
Because there were no jackpot winners in Wednesday’s drawing, the jackpot for Saturday’s drawing will rise to an estimated $213 million – the second largest jackpot of 2009. The last time the jackpot was won was on June 27th, when Rahul Patel of Newington, CT., won $25 million.
