NEW LOTTO 6/49 MILLIONNAIRE IN THE LOWER ST. LAWRENCE REGION

Montréal — The August 5, 2009, Lotto 6/49 draw produced a winner in the Lower St. Lawrence Region. Gilles Deschênes held the only winning ticket, which was worth $17,292,550! The day after the draw, Mr. Deschênes wanted to watch the results on television but it was too late and he left for a day of fishing. He therefore gave his ticket to his wife, Colette Valcourt, so she could check it against the results. She noticed that it was a winning ticket but didn't realize that the prize was so large. Mrs. Valcourt had to wait all day to tell her husband that he was a multi-millionnaire. He remained very calm and even waited a few days to claim his cheque.
The winner went to Loto-Québec offices in Québec City with his wife and a few members of his family. In fact, he plans to share his impressive fortune with them, in addition to having some renovations done on his house and buying a new truck.
The winning ticket was purchased from Dépanneur du coin, located at 180 rue Principale in Les Hauteurs. The retailer will receive a $172,925 commission, equal to 1 % of the prize.
