"IT HASN'T HIT HOME YET!"
August 13, 2009
Bainbridge Island – Harry Mills, a retired architect from Seattle, was at home with his wife Eloise, reading the newspaper the other night when she suddenly let out a shriek. Harry, worried that something might be wrong, couldn’t have been more surprised when Eloise said that they had won $400,000 playing Hit 5, a draw game from Washington’s Lottery.
“I thought she was reading the obituary section!” said Harry. “It hasn’t hit home yet that we’ve won the Lottery.”
The Mills won a few dollars on a previous Hit 5 ticket and used that prize money to purchase the winning ticket for the August 3 drawing.
After realizing they were winners, Harry and wife hid their ticket at home before making the drive to the Lottery offices in Federal Way to collect their prize.
Harry explained that the money will go into the bank and the family will “wait and see” before deciding what to do next. “The kids might have plans,” laughed Harry. “They were more excited than anybody!”
As an architect Harry designed hospitals around the world. Although, Eloise said she had the hardest job of all raising their four children while Harry traveled the world. Their son accompanied them to the Lottery office in Federal way to share this winning moment. Perhaps with the winnings, Harry and Eloise can now travel the world together.
Harry bought his winning Hit 5 ticket at Safeway located on High School Road NE on Bainbridge Island.
