CHANGE WAS GOOD FOR $10,000 POWERBALL WINNER

TOPEKA, KAN. – They say change is good. It certainly was good for Barbara Perez, a 57-year-old player from Olathe, who won $10,000 by changing the way she plays Powerball.
“I have numbers that I always use, but I didn’t have them with me the day I bought the ticket,” Perez explained. “So, I decided to let the computer pick the numbers and got a Quick Pick instead.”
That $5 Quick Pick won Perez a $10,000 prize when she matched the first four numbers and the Powerball in the Saturday, July 18 drawing. The winning numbers were: 04-21-26-28-47 PB 37. Perez matched all numbers except 28.
“I’ve been playing Powerball for years,” said the surprised winner. “And all I’ve ever won until now was $3. This is quite a shock!”
Perez says in the future she will continue to pick her own numbers, even though she won this time with a Quick Pick. She is, however, going to do one thing differently. Had Perez purchased Power Play with her Powerball ticket, she would have won $40,000, since the Power Play multiplier number for the July 18 drawing was 4.
“I’m going to use Power Play from now on,” Perez said. “I’m happy with $10,000, but $40,000 would have been better!”
Perez purchased her lucky Powerball ticket at Price Chopper 700, located at 175 North Parker Street in Olathe.
