TWO POWERBALL TICKETS WIN $200,000 EACH
July 27, 2009
DENVER – Two tickets sold in Colorado matched five numbers in Saturday’s Powerball drawing, earning $200,000 a piece. One of the lucky tickets was sold at Diamond Shamrock, 14011 W. Quincy Ave., Morrison, while the other was sold at Loaf ‘N Jug, 112 Fairgrounds Road, Eagle. The stores will each receive a $2,000 bonus for selling the $200,000-prize winning tickets. The winning numbers were 5-17-33-46-52 and Powerball number 9.
The winner from Eagle claimed his prize in Grand Junction Monday morning, but the winner in Morrison has yet to come forward. Because there were no jackpot winners in Saturday’s drawing, the top prize will rise to $102 million for Wednesday’s drawing. The last time the jackpot was hit was June 27, when one lucky ticket sold in Connecticut matched all six numbers to win a $25 million top prize. That jackpot remains unclaimed.
Although there were no jackpot winners in Saturday’s Powerball drawing, Colorado players collectively won more than $600,000 playing the game. Thirty-four people won $500 by matching four numbers or three numbers plus the Powerball number and choosing the Power Play option for an extra dollar. The Power Play option allows ticketholders to multiply their winnings by as much five times, depending on which Power Play number is chosen for the drawing. Players who match five of five numbers - as the two ticketholders in Eagle and Morrison did – automatically win $1 million if they opt for Power Play. Colorado was the only state to claim two five of five winners. Tickets sold in Florida, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Louisiana and Oregon also matched five numbers in Saturday’s drawing.
