"I GUESS SOMEBODY'S WATCHING ME FROM UPSTAIRS"
July 20, 2009
RICHLAND – Argyrios (AR-Gee-Ree-Os) Danakos, originally from Greece, plays Washington’s Lottery occasionally and always plays the same numbers. The numbers don’t have a special meaning but he just sat down one day and decided those were the ones. Now he can call them lucky numbers since they won him $310,000 playing Washington’s Lottery Hit 5.
Argyrios, who owns an olive oil business, hadn’t played for six months. He is a business owner and times have been tough, but he decided a couple of days ago to try his luck and purchased a couple Hit 5 tickets.
“I guess somebody’s watching me from upstairs,” said Argyrios. “On my hard times … here is the money to continue!” He had to check his ticket at least ten times to make sure he had actually won and then he went home to his son to tell him the good news. “He was very excited! In fact he’s here to see the check!” exclaimed Argyrios, when he was at the Lottery office in Yakima. He said the night he won he tucked away his ticket in his wallet and slept with the wallet under his pillow.
When Argyrios came into the office and saw the check, he said thoughtfully, “It’s a reality.” He will be investing most of the money into his olive oil business to keep it going. He’s a former restaurant owner and founded his current business six years ago.
Argyrios bought the winning ticket at Kwick Stop on Swift Boulevard in Richland.
