CT LOTTERY HISTORY MADE!
June 8, 2009
Torrington resident Kenneth Blount, III made CT Lottery history by becoming the first top prize winner of $2,000 a week for the rest of his life in the CT Lottery's new draw game, Lucky-4-Life.
The June 8, 2009 winning combination drawn was 02-11-19-30, and the Lucky Ball was 25. A total of 13,569 winning tickets were sold statewide for Monday night's drawing and just one contained the top prize combination. Blount purchased his winning ticket as a Quick Pick.
According to Blount, who manages a wine shop in Watertown, he will continue to work, and has no plans on leaving his job. "Nobody believed me at first" said Blount, who showed up at CT Lottery headquarters today to receive his first installment.
"Connecticut's Lottery players have been enjoying the 'for life' concept of our scratch games for quite some time" said Anne M. Noble, President and CEO of the CT Lottery. "With 'Lucky-4-Life,' people who enjoy drawing games can also participate in a 'for life' - style game. 'Lucky' has been a huge success thus far and we are excited to have our first top prize winner."
The winning ticket was sold at Quick Mart on 1030 Litchfield Road in Watertown. For selling the winning ticket, the retailer will receive a $20,000 selling bonus.
"Lucky-4-Life holds great promise for our state, players, and lottery retailers. Lucky-4-Life is custom-designed for Connecticut and offers attractive overall odds" Noble stated. "In addition to a meaningful top prize of up to $2,000 a week for life, the lowest prize level has been set at $4, making it twice the purchase price of the ticket."
To date, ticket sales have generated 248,643 winning tickets for CT's Lottery players. The game has exceeded sales expectations, and is on track to generate $10 million in sales before the fiscal year ends on June 30. Sales of that amount will produce a return to the state's General Fund of $3.5 million, according to Lottery financial reports.
To play Lucky-4-Life, players pick four unique numbers ranging from 1 to 39. Next, a LUCKY BALL number from 1 to 39 is chosen. Top prize winners must match all five numbers to claim the Top Prize - up to $2,000 a week for life, depending on the number of winning tickets sold for that level. The minimum top prize payment period is 20 years. The top prize is governed by "split-prize" liability, which means the top prize is divided equally among all top prize tickets. There are eight prize levels in all, with the minimum prize being $4 - twice the purchase price.
Overall odds are 1 in 14.4. Odds of winning the "for life" top prize are approximately 1 in 3.2 million. Top prize values are subject to split-prize liability and may be less than advertised.
