PEI POKER CHALLENGE DRAWS IN A FULL HOUSE
June 25, 2009
Charlottetown (PEI) – Vegas-schmegas. With 240 Texas Hold’em Poker players at the Charlottetown Driving Park and Entertainment Centre (CDPEC), Atlantic Canadians got a taste of championship poker in their very own backyard. The CDPEC played host to the first-ever PEI Poker Challenge the weekend of June 12-14.
Atlantic Canadians flocked to the Island to take their chances at winning not only a nice chunk of change; there was a $72,000 Main Event prize pool up for grabs, but also the title of PEI Poker Challenge Champion.
The winning hand was dealt to Anthony Kotsahasakis of Saint John, N.B., who defeated Darren Marshall from Truro, N.S. in intense heads-up action. Darren’s take for the tournament was $12,600, with Anthony’s championship at the final table netting him $20,000; plus, an invite to defend his title at next year’s PEI Poker Challenge.
