ARKANSAS MAN WINS $1,000,000 ON LOTTERY'S $500,000,000 EXTRAVAGANZA INSTANT GAME

Forty-year-old Li Xing Lin, a resident of Helena, Arkansas who traveled to New York City last month to visit friends and relatives, is the newest $1,000,000 winner on the New York Lottery’s $500,000,000 Extravaganza instant game. The father of two boys, ages 9 and 13, said he has purchased other New York Lottery tickets during past visits, but has never experienced this kind of luck before.
“This is a dream come true,” he said. “At first, I walked right passed the store where I bought my ticket without stopping,” continued Lin, “But something told me to go back. I scratched the ticket in the store. It was my lucky day.”
Lin purchased his winning $500,000,000 Extravaganza scratch-off ticket on April 22, 2009 at the Gui Chai store on East Broadway in Manhattan. He claimed his $1,000,000 prize on April 29, 2009 at the Lottery’s Customer Service Center in New York City.
As is the case with most New York Lottery instant game prizes, the $1,000,000 prize on the $500,000,000 Extravaganza instant game is paid as a 20-year annuity. Lin will receive his prize in annual payments of $50,000 a year before required tax withholdings. He will receive an annual net check totaling $33,015 through 2028. Lin and his wife, Chen, a waitress, plan to use their windfall to fulfill the couple’s dream of owning a home of their own.
“Maybe now I can be home more with my family,” said Lin who works six days a week as a cook in a Chinese restaurant. “That would be nice for all of us.”
The Lottery’s popular $500,000,000 Extravaganza ticket features a variety of cash prizes ranging from $20 to $5,000,000. The $20 scratch off game features 84 cash prizes worth $1,000,000 each; 12 cash prizes of $2,000,000 each; and eight top prizes worth $5,000,000 each. As of this writing, there were 28 of the $1,000,000 prizes remaining as well as five of the $2,000,000 and four of the $5,000,000 prizes, respectively.
