COLUMBIA WOMAN CLAIMS $10,000 SCRATCHERS PRIZE

One winning ticket quickly turned into two for a Columbia woman playing the Missouri Lottery’s “$200,000 A Year for Life” Scratchers game. Kathi Plackmeyer went to Midwest Petroleum, 2712 Paris Road in Columbia, to trade in a $20 winning ticket for a new one and ended up walking away with a $10,000 prize.
Plackmeyer, a merchandiser for Bunny Bread, said she hasn’t always been a regular Scratchers player, but something about this game appealed to her.
“It’s new. It says it’s the best payout,” she started. “And $200,000 a year for life would be kind of nice!”
As luck would have it, just the day before scratching off her $10,000 ticket, she had told her sister in Michigan she had a feeling “something good is going to happen.” She was happy to call her sister back to report the follow-up.
“I said, ‘You’re not going to believe this!” she shared.
As she recalled scratching off her winning ticket in the parking lot, Plackmeyer said she uncovered the “10X” symbol and immediately looked at the bottom of her ticket to verify what it meant. It indeed meant that she had won 10 times the prize listed on her ticket.
“I screamed all the way home,” she laughed.
She plans to use the unexpected prize money to repay recent debt.
