GRAND JUNCTION PLAYER WINS $1 MILLION POWERBALL PRIZE
May 18, 2009
GRAND JUNCTION – One lucky Grand Junction resident earned a $1 million prize in Saturday’s Powerball drawing. The player, who wishes to remain anonymous, matched five of five numbers and chose the Power Play option, which resulted in a $1 million prize. Players who match five numbers in the Powerball drawing usually win a $200,000 prize, but selecting the Power Play option (for an additional $1) automatically multiplies their winnings by five.
“This winner is the 395th millionaire the Lottery has created since the organization’s establishment in 1983,” said Colorado Lottery Director Jack Boehm. “It’s always a thrill to see a winner’s reaction when presented with such a large check.”
The lucky ticket was sold at City Market, 2770 Highway 50 South. The store will receive $3,000 for selling the $1 million winning ticket. The winning numbers in Saturday’s drawing were: 6, 7, 31 ,40, 56 and the Powerball number 38. Because there was no jackpot winner in the drawing, the jackpot will rise to an estimated $170 million for Wednesday’s drawing.
