JEFFERSON COLLEGE STUDENTS AND POLICE OFFICER SPLIT $77,000 PRIZE
April 17, 2009
A dream turned into reality for two Jefferson College students and one police officer on April 14. Krysten and Paul McKeever, siblings from De Soto, and Justin Cosma of Arnold, decided to pool their money together to purchase as many Missouri Lottery "Sizzlin’ 7’s" Scratchers tickets as they could from Frontier Petroleum, 1919 Richardson Road in Arnold.
According to Krysten, her brother Paul and her boyfriend Justin, a police officer in Arnold, had been thinking about purchasing a book of Scratchers tickets for awhile and trying their luck, but until recently they had never followed through with the idea.
"We all pitched in, and we bought the whole book," Krysten began. "So, we spent $300 to win $77,000. We went to the gas station, and she (clerk) couldn’t sell the actual book. So, we just picked the one that had the most on it. It had four missing from it, so we bought that book."
Krysten and Paul, both students at Jefferson College and QuikTrip employees, scratched the tickets at Justin’s apartment on April 13.
In Krysten’s words, she thought, "No Way," as she began to uncover the $77,000 prize.
When asked about plans for the windfall, Krysten said, "We’ll divide it and save it." In addition, to saving the money, the group will "probably go on vacation" to Hawaii.
