CHESTERTON MAN'S MILLION DOLLAR TAX DAY SURPRISE

INDIANAPOLIS – April 15 - Tax Day - is a day few people actually look forward to. After scratching off a $1 million prize on April 15, Tax Day is a day Tom Hatch of Chesterton will look forward to every year for the next 20 years. He will receive an annual payment of $50,000 before taxes this time every year.
Hatch claimed his prize with his girlfriend Jennifer Moorhead this morning at Hoosier Lottery Headquarters in Indianapolis where he received his first annual installment of $50,000.
Hatch, who works in the housing industry, says the best thing about his win is the security and peace of mind the annual income offers.
"I'm a general contractor. I build new homes and it's bad out there," said Hatch.
Hatch plans to use his winnings to build an addition onto his house and help his daughter.
"I couldn't sleep last night. I'm in shock," said Hatch. "This has always been my dream."
Hatch purchased his Hoosier Millions Scratch-off ticket at MCR Short Stop at 6381 Central Ave. in Portage.
The Chesterton resident is the latest in a string of big winners in Porter County. Portage resident Thomas Nawrocki claimed a $50,000 Scratch-off prize on April 13. Somebody purchased a $200,000 winning Powerball® ticket at Family Express #52 at 6250 Ameriplex Drive in Portage for the April 8 drawing. That prize has not yet been claimed.
