EAGLE MAN CLOSES BUSINESS, WINS $100,000 ON LOTTERY’S DEAL OR NO DEAL
April 8, 2009
Boise – There were no dazzling models or Hollywood lights. There were no numbered silver briefcases, his friends encouraging him or even Howie Mandel pressuring him to make the decision of a lifetime. But one Eagle resident at least beat the banker yesterday morning and collected $100,000 from the Idaho Lottery when he scratched the last top prize in their popular Deal or No Deal Scratch game.

What started out as a routine day for Glen Garlick of Eagle eventually turned into an exciting morning when he received an urgent phone call from his wife. She had a lunch appointment, had left her purse at home and needed Garlick to bring it to her. After completing the errand, Garlick stopped at the Stinker store on the corner of Eagle Road and Chinden to get some gas and pick up a Deal or No Deal Scratch ticket from the Idaho Lottery.

In keeping with the Lottery’s newest ad theme, Play Can’t Wait, Garlick did not wait to scratch his ticket at home, in the parking lot, or even in his vehicle. He scratched it right at the counter where he purchased it despite a few customers standing in line behind him.

“I got going and just couldn’t wait to finish it,” Garlick described. “I just kept scratching one “No Deal” brief case after another. Then the lower prize amounts kept coming off until the only prize left was $100,000. I didn’t believe it. Everyone in line behind me didn’t believe it either!”

Once he realized he’d won, Garlick drove immediately to the Lottery Headquarters in Boise. In his haste to claim his big winner, Garlick realized his wallet was at home in Eagle. An hour later and after driving all the way to Eagle and then back to Boise, Garlick claimed his winning ticket.

“This is pretty exciting and it’s been a heck of morning,” Garlick said Tuesday morning in the Idaho Lottery’s Winners Lobby.

Garlick closed his Treasure Valley business down last year and is currently enrolled at Boise State University seeking a degree that will change his profession.

“This couldn’t have come at a better time,” he explained. “Now I’ll be able to afford to pay my tuition bills and finish my program next year.”

Garlick’s win officially ends ticket sales for this edition of the Idaho Lottery’s Deal or No Deal game. Players who have Deal or No Deal tickets with the word “Entry” in the Bankers Box have until June 30, 2009 at noon Mountain Time to enter them in a national second-chance draw for a chance to win up to $2.5 million. Two Idaho Deal or No Deal players will be chosen at random from the all entries and placed in a national pool for the draw in early July for a chance to win the game’s top prize.

Stinker-Eagle #83 received a $12,000 commission check from the Idaho Lottery for their part in selling the winning ticket.
