COLORADO LOTTERY LAUNCHES NEW INSTANT JACKPOT SCRATCH GAMES
April 6, 2009
DENVER – Passionate about Powerball, but never played Scratch? Well, a new line of Colorado Lottery games aims to change that, giving lovers of the Lottery’s Jackpot games the opportunity to play their favorite games in Scratch form. Instant Cash 5, A Lotto Cash and Instant Powerball hit shelves today, marking the first time the Lottery has offered Scratch tickets based off of traditional jackpot drawing games.
The new Scratch games are structured like their Jackpot counterparts, requiring players to match between 2 and 6 numbers to qualify for a prize. Priced at $1, the Instant Cash 5 game includes a $20,000 top prize; $3 A Lotto Cash contains a $50,000 top prize and Instant Powerball costs $5 and offers a $100,000 top prize. The Powerball ticket also includes a Power Play multiplier box that will give players the chance to multiply their prize by as much as five times.
“These games offer a great opportunity for us. We’re giving our Scratch players a chance to experience the Jackpot games and introducing fans of our Jackpot games to Scratch, “ said Colorado Lottery Director Jack Boehm.
Boehm noted that 37 percent of the population in Colorado plays Powerball, but only 16 percent of that group play Scratch games. Meanwhile, 29 percent of the population plays Scratch games, but only 18 percent of those Scratch players play one or more of the Lottery’s jackpot games.
“We’re really hoping that our players – whether they’re loyal to Scratch or the Jackpot games - will experiment and try something new,” Boehm said.
