$1,000,000 LOTTERY PRIZE LETS SEMI-RETIRED ALBANY DRUG STORE EMPLOYEE RETIRE FOR GOOD
April 2, 2009
Vincent Suto is three times lucky. The 67-yeard-old father of one has his daughter, Lisa, to thank for gifting him with a $1,000,000 top prize winning Triple Diamonds scratch off ticket she purchased while grocery shopping at the local Hannaford store. And, the semi-retired drug store manager credits Hannaford for keeping the store’s Lottery vending machine full of the latest instant tickets, including the one that made him an instant millionaire.

“And then there’s fate,” said Suto. “My third lucky charm.”

Suto explained he might not have been so lucky if his daughter had purchased another scratch off ticket as she originally planned. But, the ticket she wanted to buy, a Monopoly instant game, was not available.

“She might have been disappointed, but I wasn’t.” said Suto. “I’ll never forget scratching off that ticket and realizing it was a $1,000,000 winner. I can’t describe the feeling; like having a weight lifted off my chest.”

Lisa Suto, a library clerk at Albany Law Library, said no one was more surprised than she to find out her second choice was a $1,000,000 winner. “I actually started to scratch the ticket,” she said. “But, I gave it to my father to finish because I wanted him to reap the reward.”

Lisa Suto purchased the $1,000,000 winning Triple Diamonds ticket on March 15, 2009 at the Hannaford store on the corner of Wolf and Sand Creek Roads in Albany. Vincent Suto claimed the ticket the following day at the Lottery’s Customer Service Center in Schenectady.

As is the case with most New York Lottery instant game prizes, the top prize on the Triple Diamonds ticket is paid as a 20-year annuity. Suto will receive his prize in annual payments of $50,000 a year before required tax withholdings. His annual net check will total $34,075.

When asked about plans for the money, Suto said he was looking forward to a long vacation in the sun followed by an even more lengthy retirement. “The permanent kind,” he said.

In addition to Suto, other recent Capital Region Lottery players to receive a prize check valued at $1,000,000 or more include Pamela Fitch of Mechanicville who won $1,000,000 on the Big Bucks instant ticket; Patti Parsons of Delmar who won at least $10,000,000 on the Set for Life instant game; and Alan North of Clifton Park who split the $5,000,000 top prize on the Set For Life instant game with his wife, Carol.
