Joe Klimek of Bloomington has a reason to be a fan of the Lottery’s Northstar Cash game: he recently won a Northstar Cash jackpot for the second time.
The quick-pick ticket he purchased for the drawing on Jan. 28, 2009 won the $40,360 jackpot. He also won $38,357 on Oct. 2, 2008.
On Jan. 29, “I called the [Lottery’s winning numbers] hotline to find out the prize and if there were any other winners,” Klimek recalled. After he learned that all five numbers on his ticket matched those drawn on Jan. 28 (10-12-16-17-27), he woke up his wife to tell her that he won another Northstar Cash jackpot. His wife said, “You’re kidding! Really? Are you sure?”
Klimek drove to Lottery headquarters in Roseville on April 3 to claim the prize. Asked how he felt about winning the jackpot a second time, Klimek said, “I feel very blessed.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Cub Foods, 10520 S. France Ave. in Bloomington.
The following Northstar Cash jackpot prizes are unclaimed: $28,000 from the drawing on July 16, 2008 (sold in Stearns County); $44,401 from the drawing on March 15, 2009 (sold in Stearns County); $58,941 from the drawing on April 3, 2009 (sold in Ramsey County); and $12,500 from the drawing on April 4, 2009 (sold in Hennepin County). Northstar Cash players have one year from the date of the drawing to claim their prizes.
To play Northstar Cash, players select five numbers from 1 to 31. Matching the five numbers drawn wins the jackpot, which starts at $25,000 and grows until it is won. Players also win by matching 2, 3 or 4 of the numbers drawn.
