FRIDAY THE 13TH BRINGS LUCK TO FREDONIA RESIDENT

TOPEKA, KAN. – Friday the 13th proved to be a lucky day for Sandy Miller. The Fredonia resident revealed a $5,000 cash prize playing a $5 Super Red Hot Crossword instant scratch ticket she purchased earlier in the day.
“My husband Greg and I spent the day remodeling our house,” said Miller. “After we were finished, I scratched my ticket. I was so tired, I thought I’d won a free ticket.”
The next day, Miller stopped at a convenience store to cash in her “free” ticket.
“I handed the clerk my ticket and I told him I thought I had a free ticket,” said Miller. “When he scanned my ticket, he looked at me and said, ‘This is more than a free ticket. It’s a $5,000 winner!’ I couldn’t believe it.”
According to Miller, she kept her winning ticket in her purse for safekeeping. That is, until they went out of town.
“We had to go out of town, so I put my ticket in a ziplock bag and hid it in the freezer,” smiled Miller. “I figured if someone broke into our house, they wouldn’t look there.”
Miller and her husband, who have been married 25 years, were undecided how they’d spend their prize money.
The winning ticket was purchased at Pump N Pete’s of Fredonia, located at 303 Washington in Fredonia.
