MASON CITY MAN WINS SECOND $25,000 LOTTERY PRIZE

DES MOINES, Iowa – Six years after he won a $25,000 lottery prize with an instant-scratch ticket he purchased at a local supermarket, a Mason City man has won another $25,000 prize with a ticket he purchased at the same store.
Curtis Johnson said he likes playing the lottery's scratch games, and he's obviously had good luck with them!
"I just scratched it and then had to check the numbers about 10 different times," Johnson said Monday as he claimed his $25,000 prize in the "Bingo Times 10" game at the lottery's regional office in Mason City.
Johnson, 62, who is retired, said he bought his winning ticket Sunday at Hy-Vee, 551 S. Illinois St. in Mason City, and then had a little trouble sleeping after he realized he'd won a big prize.
"I've had to sit on it for 24 hours," he said. "I didn't sleep real well – I was very excited to claim the prize."
Johnson won his first $25,000 prize in February 2003 in the "Venetian® Las Vegas" gaming-themed scratch game the lottery offered at that time. He also purchased that ticket at the Hy-Vee supermarket on S. Illinois in Mason City.
Johnson said he's developed a bit of a reputation for good luck amongst this family and friends, who try to get him to buy tickets for them.
"They keep trying that but I'm not going to be the one who buys them a losing ticket!" he said with a laugh.
Bingo Times 10 is a $10 scratch game. Players try to match any complete horizontal, vertical or diagonal line, four corners, or an "X" pattern on one of the eight Bingo cards to win the corresponding prize in the prize arrow that points to their card. The "10X" symbol is a "Free" space. If the 10X symbol appears in any winning Bingo pattern, the prize is multiplied by 10. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 3.37.
Johnson has some definite plans for his winnings.
"I'm just going to put most of it in savings," he said. "I'm going to buy me a new TV and that's it."
