"THIS MAKES LIFE A LOT EASIER"
March 18, 2009
Arlington – Shaun Murphy still can't believe he won the Lottery. Shaun woke up in the morning thinking it would be an average work day but little did he know that he would win $470,000 from Washington's Lottery with a Hit 5 ticket.
Shaun stops by Trafton General Store most mornings to grab a cup of coffee before heading to work. On his last visit, the ladies working at the store told him that someone had purchased a winning Hit 5 ticket from their store and he'd better check his two tickets.
"This was only the second time I played Hit 5," said Shaun.
Shaun quickly walked out to his truck where he had one of the tickets he'd purchased and found it wasn't the winner. He decided to head back home to grab the other Hit 5 ticket that he had left there.
When he returned to the store with the second ticket, the ladies behind the counter quickly checked to see if that was a winner. It was! "They started screaming and jumping up and down," laughs Shaun.
When asked how he felt about winning he said it is taking a while for it all to set in. Shaun shared the good news with his manager who immediately told him to take the day off and go collect his winnings.
"I told my brother and he simply told me, 'You've got to be kidding me!'" laughed Shaun. Shaun also realized that his friend of more than 15 years, Barb, who works at Trafton General Store had sold him the winning ticket. He is looking forward to going back and telling her the good news.
"It definitely is going to make life a lot easier," explained Shaun. He works for a construction company and mentioned that during winter months when the work is light these winnings will definitely help give him peace of mind. Shaun also plans to purchase a home with the winnings.
