RICHMOND WOMAN WINS TOP PRIZE IN MAXIMUM MILLIONS

When Patricia Emory of Richmond scratched the Maximum Millions ticket she had just bought, she thought she was dreaming.
“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing!” she later told Virginia Lottery officials. “I almost fell to the floor.”
She bought the ticket at Fitzgerald Lafayette Pharmacy, located at 1011 Lafayette Street in Richmond.
She then called her husband and asked, “Are you sitting down?” before giving him the good news.
Ms. Emory is the second player to claim the top prize of $1 million over 25 years in the Maximum Millions game. She chose to take the cash option of $564,000 before taxes.
Maximum Millions is one of dozens of Scratcher games offered by the Virginia Lottery. The game has prizes ranging from $20 all the way up to 15 top prizes of $1 million in 25 annual payments. There are still 13 top-prize tickets yet to be claimed.
