SUNSET PARK COOK, WIFE SPLIT $2,000,000 PRIZE ON $500,000,000 EXTRAVAGANZA GAME
March 11, 2009
Fa Zheng and his wife Li Hua Zhang of Sunset Park, Brooklyn are in the market for a new house and a new car thanks to a $2,000,000 prize the couple won on the New York Lottery’s popular $500,000,000 Extravaganza instant game.
“I feel like I’m the king of the hill,” said Zheng who works as a cook. “I can do things for my family now that were not possible before,” he continued. “I am very lucky.”
Zheng purchased his prize winning $500,000,000 Extravaganza ticket on February 25, 2009 during a routine stop for coffee at Tang’s Stationery on 4th Ave. in Brooklyn. He waited until March 5, 2009 to claim his prize at the Lottery’s Customer Service Center in Manhattan because he didn’t want to take time off from work.
“I do not have much free time,” he said. “Work keeps me very busy, but maybe that will change.”
As is the case with most New York Lottery instant game prizes, the top prize on the $500,000,000 Extravaganza ticket is paid as a 20-year annuity. Zheng and his wife opted to split the $2,000,000 top prize on this ticket and will each receive $50,000 a year before required tax withholdings. The net amount of their individual annuity checks will total $32,251.
Zhang said she welcomed the couple’s good fortune and looked forward to using the money to help raise the couple’s three children ranging in age from one to six years old.
In addition to a number of lower tier prizes ranging from $20 to $1,000, the Lottery’s $500,000,000 Extravaganza instant ticket also features eight top prizes valued at $5,000,000 each; 12 second prizes valued at $2,000,000 each and 84 third prizes valued at $1,000,000 each. As of this writing there were four top prizes, seven second prizes and 32 third prizes remaining.
